This is an open window atop the historical St.Simons Island lighthouse.The window caught my eye because it was wide open. The historical atmosphere of the lighthouse,built in 1872 after the first one was destroyed by Confederate troops to prevent use by federal soldiers,is overpowering as you gaze upward into the window. This is one of five in Georgia that survive and is operational casting its light twenty five miles out to sea.copyright 2015 Jan Gelders Photography all rights reserved
