Description
This couple of wild chickens have found what they think is the safest place to nest, up on the roof. There is no nesting material. The hen lays the egg and it rolls off the roof. It is usually in tact on the ground, but if it falls on a deck below it will burst open. This phenomena happens a lot because of the predators on the ground. If a hen successfully lays a clutch of eggs and they hatch up high the chicks have to jump from at least 12 ft. heights with the hen calling them below. The chicks are very hardy and can survive the jump. Sometimes there is one that will not follow the process so he gets left behind to be rescued. Then he is reunited on the ground with the hen who will accept him back in the group. This rooster awaits the first egg while the hen makes clucking noises.
